Vanessa Moore ’15 Voted NCS Performing Artist of the Year

Vanessa Moore ‘15 and Roy Auh (STA ’15) have been named the 2015 NCS/STA Outstanding Performing Artists. Each year, an NCS senior and a STA senior are selected by a combined vote of the NCS and STA Upper School students.

The recipients have their names inscribed on a plaque, presented by NCS Head of School Kathleen O’Neill Jamieson and STA Head of School Vance Wilson. The award, established in 2002, is donated by former STA parent Joyce Brently and her son Nick, STA ’02. The winners were announced at the annual NCS/STA Performing Arts Banquet held May 19 at NCS (the two schools alternate hosting the banquet).

The evening’s special guest speaker was NCS alumna Ann “Annie” Simon ’07, who recently received her MFA in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. While at NCS, Ms. Simon was involved in many aspects of the performing arts--Cathedral Choristers, Chorale, Madrigal Singers, Sarsaparilla, and many musical plays. She now sings opera in the Boston area, and entertained banquet attendees by singing an aria from Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio and “Somewhere That’s Green” from Little Shop of Horrors.

In her remarks, Ms. Simon offered good advice for aspiring young performers of all art forms: be easy to work with; when starting out, take whatever is offered to you; and learn to take criticism, but consider the source before taking that criticism to heart.

The NCS and STA communities extend their thanks to event co-chairs Mariana Bush (mother of Victoria Bush ’15) and Beth Kelley (mother of Will Kelley STA ’15) for a festive and beautifully presented evening.

Our thanks to all of the student dancers, singers, actors, and musicians who entertained us throughout this school year, and their hard-working teachers and directors!  Your extraordinary talents bring great  joy to our community.
