Scenes from Lower School Life

On Feb. 23, 2015, the Lower School celebrated “special places” when they hosted the all-school Cathedral Service. In what has become a Lower School tradition, 4th-grade students choose their “magical place” in the Bishops’ Garden during the fall, write poems about it, and study the plant life of the garden. During the service Stella-Grace Ford, Yochi Hobson, and Sadhbh Merriman read their poems. Songs performed by the Lower School Chorus and Guild, “Come into the House of the Lord,” and “Deep in the Meadow,” also supported the theme. Despite being unable to use the Cathedral platform due to construction scaffolding, the girls took the change in stride and presented a worship service enjoyed by all.

On Feb. 24, parents were invited to join their 4th-grade daughters in a “Connect 4” engineering challenge. Connect 4 is an innovative project created by NCS’s 4th-grade teachers to encourage learning in new, multidisciplinary ways. Parent/student teams were invited to try three different construction exercises using simple materials, and encouraged to learn by experimentation. As you’ll see in the photo gallery, all were quite engrossed in their work!

Photo galleries of both the Cathedral service and Connect 4 challenge can be seen in the NCS website’s Media Gallery by clicking here.  Each gallery can be played as a slideshow; photos can be downloaded from the album view by clicking on the photo and choosing a download size from the choices in the lower left corner of the image.
