Language Teachers to Convene at NCS

On Saturday, April 11, NCS is hosting the second annual Greater Washington Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages (GWATFL) “Spring Immersion Day.” Some 80 teachers are expected to attend 50-minute peer-led sessions on innovative techniques and best practices from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Sessions will be held in Hearst Hall, 3612 Woodley Rd. NW, Washington, DC.

Three of NCS’s Foreign Language faculty will lead sessions during the conference:

• Latin Teacher Kevin Perry will present “The Romans Spoke Latin; So Can Your Students,” about the use of use of guided and extemporaneous Latin and how verbal and auditory interaction support comprehension.
• Spanish Teacher Luis Deocares will present “Digital Multimedia & Storytelling,” exploring projects that integrate digital multimedia, with an emphasis on storytelling
• French Teacher Sylvie Bouvier will present “Pour développer l'écrit en français,” sharing ways teachers can improve students’ writing in French.

Department Chair Nilda Villalta, Deocares, and their colleagues have all worked hard to make this conference a most productive and inspiring day.
