Eight Wins for the Eagles!

Tuesday, September 30th was a great day for the Eagles with all eight contests posting wins!

The NCS Varsity Soccer team hosted cross-town rival Georgetown Day School on the Nazareth Lower Field.  After being down by a score of 1-0 at halftime, the Eagles came out in the second half with a renewed spirit.  They put consistent pressure on GDS's backline and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal headed in by Marta Sniezek '15 with an assist from Hazel Horvath '17.  With the game tied at 1, NCS weathered a scary moment when the Hoppers were awarded a PK in the 60th minute.  Thankfully for the Eagles, the shot sailed wide to keep the game tied.  Then, with only minutes left to play in the game, the Eagles were awarded a PK of their own after a GDS defender was called for a foul in the box.  For the second time on the day, Marta Sniezek '15 found the back of the net as she converted her PK into the game-winning goal.

The Varsity Field Hockey team also came out on top of a close game with the Potomac School.  Selin Everett '17 started the scoring off early with her goal in the 6th minute of the game with an assist from Talley Snow '15.  Later in the first half the game witnessed back-to-back goals within minutes of each other as Potomac capitalized first to tie the game, and the Eagles answered right back with a goal of their own by Hadley Irwin '16.  Potomac owned the momentum going into the second half using speedy plays and long hits to break into the Eagles' defense.  They scored to tie the game at 2 off a penalty corner with 15 minutes left to play in the game.  Inspired by the exceptional play by senior defenders, Gracie Cary '15, Andrea Vegarra '15, and Mary Parker '15, the Eagle midfielders were able to gain possession and work the ball methodically into Potomac territory and draw a penalty corner with less than four minutes in the game.  Meghan McGovern '17 controlled the initial rebound and sent a ball sailing directly into the left corner of the goal for the win.

The Eagle Varsity Volleyball team travelled to Holton-Arms and came home with their second win in a row, winning the match outright in three sets.  Each set was exceptionally close, with each being decided by less than a six-point differential.  In the second set, Holton-Arms starting things off with authority and commanded an 18-10 lead.  However, the Eagles would not yield - instead they clawed their way back for the eventual win with timely kills by Giogio Drummond '16 and clutch serving by Lexi Novak '18.

The Varsity Tennis team travelled to Sidwell Friends and also played in one of their closest matches of the season.  The Eagles eventually took 4 of 7 matches for the win.

Both JV Soccer and JV Volleyball had winning afternoons.  On the JV Soccer team, Freshman Emmeline Leggett '18 scored five goals for the Eagles in one of the team's best outings yet.  The JV Volleyball team defeated Holton-Arms taking the first two of three sets.

JV Field Hockey defeated Potomac by a score of 4-0 with goals coming from India Ingersoll '16 (2), Siobhan Robinson-Marshall '16, and Elizabeth Thoren '17.  Even our Middle School Field Hockey team played a great game with a win over Stone Ridge.  Bentley Anderson '19 scored on an assist from Alisa Ghura '19, then Anderson was the one with an assist to Annalise Weber '19 who deflected her pass in from the right post.

Great day to be an Eagle!  Congratulations, teams!!
